Care Farm Project Co-ordinator (part time, contract role)
Near Leighton Buzzard, Buckinghamshire
1 day per week / £5,100 per annum (pro rata for 10 months)


The role
Horses Helping People is a full time therapeutic horsemanship centre and care farm providing activities for adults and children from disadvantaged backgrounds. We have recently received funding for the Neigh Team project, which will bring together volunteers (including people from both veteran and homeless communities) to build a nature trail with conservation habitats, create a vegetable garden, and work with driving horses. This contract role will be funded by the National Lottery through the Big Lottery fund and will run from March 2014 – December 2014. Key responsibilities are:

• Liaising with support organisations to recruit volunteers;
• Management of volunteers and on site welfare;
• Evaluation of the project and volunteers;
• Making capital purchases and managing budgets;
• Planning and supervision of activities, including therapeutic horsemanship sessions; and
• Training horses for driving and harness work.


The candidate
You must be self-motivated as well as being able to work as part of a team. The successful candidate must have the following key skills:
• Recent experience in recruitment and management of volunteers;
• Recent experience of managing budgets;
• Recent experience of project evaluation;
• At least one year’s experience of working with people with mental health issues;
• At least two years’ experience of working therapeutically with horses and nature; and
• Horsemanship skills to training standard, including driving.

The following skills are considered desirable for this role:
• Awareness of issues facing veterans and the homeless; and
• Recent experience of working in a not for profit organisation.
